Tent Card

Welcome to a new week in my Crafty Space!  Last week I chatted about using scraps to make those cute Butterflies.  This week lets try our hand at a “Tent” card.

Card base is cut to 12 x 4.25, scored at 4.75, 9.5, 10.5 and 11.5. Fold and crease all score lines.

Using nesting dies, cut an opening (in my case circle, but you can use any shape die as long as you have one at least .5 inch larger to make the frame)

Next you will need to cut this same size opening from your layering piece.  Trick:  apply snail to the die cut center, place layering piece over the opening you just cut out centering both areas, then hold in place and flip both pieces of card stock over and place the snail side of the die cut within the cut opening.  Now you will know precisely where to lay your die so the openings align when assembling your card.

Cut a frame using slightly larger die.

Assembling the card.  Cut a length of nylon thread or fishing line longer than your opening.  You will need two die cuts ie: two butterflies.  Add tear and tape to the wrong side of one butterfly. Lay fishing line on tear and tape add wet glue and close sandwich with second die cut (butterfly)

Adhere butterfly thread ends to backside of layering piece, being sure to keep taught.  Add layering piece to card base and attach circle frame, being sure to have all 3 openings aligned.

Stamp an image on the inside of the card base, be sure you can see it thru the opening.  Add tear and tape along .5 inch score line and adhere to other end of card base.  A tent is born!!!!!

Stamps used:  Flowering Fields (Sale-a-bration) Crazy About You (138859) Sprinkle of Life (139971) and the Petite Petals Punch (133322) and Bold Butterfly Framelits Dies (138135)

I was trying to make an A2 sized top folding spinner card and then this happened:

Don’t you hate when you smudge a finished card?

Tent Card to the rescue!!!!!  I simply cut a matching piece of card stock to 3 x 4.25 then scored at .5, 1.5, and 2.5.  After folding and creasing at the scorelines I applied Tear and Tape along both sides of the .5 fold and attached to the bottom of both card sides.

Voila! Instant Tent!

No reason to “open” the card, so smudge is forgiven 🙂
